SOEX ART AUCTION 2015

SOEX ART AUCTION 2015

The theme for Southern Exposure’s 2015 art auction was Equilux—when day and night are almost equal. Kim West and I created a modular visual system and custom typeface inspired
by celestial shapes at night. Our flexible design was then applied to SoEx posters, web banners, catalogs and event signage.

BODY LANGUAGE INSTALLATION

BODY LANGUAGE INSTALLATION

For Alter Space Gallery's Peep Hole Gallery space, I etched letterforms into glass panes and then edge-lit them. Each peep hole had three glass panes, one unique letterform on each pane (three e's, s's, a's etc.). The letterforms are floral and bodily. They spell the phrase "aerospace see."

Maze Art and Frontier

Maze Art and Frontier

Logo for Maze Art and Frontier, an art gallery retail space that sells both craft and fine art works. The mark combines forms from both the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts movements, and the typography is contemporary.

Town Kitchen Wordmark

Town Kitchen Wordmark

The Town Kitchen is an Oakland based food kitchen run by local youth. To speak to their grassroots, activist values we based the typography on old political posters made by the Fireworks Graphics Collective in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960’s.

Blockbuster

Blockbuster

During my internship at Stripe SF, I worked with Jon Sueda and Megan Lynch to create graphics for Blockbuster, an exhibition at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Monterrey, Mexico, about visual art inspired by cinema. The graphics were created by appropriating lettering and illustrations found in 1940’s era Mexican movie posters. The alphabet we drew and the illustrations we created were used in exhibition graphics, print materials (including billboards and bus shelter posters), and an exhibition catalog.

Alter Space Gallery Logos

For Alter Space’s rebrand, we made a two part logo system. The wordmark is used mostly on print collateral, while the symbol appears most often on the web.

California Coast, Rocky Reefs

California Coast, Rocky Reefs

The Rocky Reefs exhibit in the aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences establishes a sense of place —the cold, underwater and craggy coastline of California. In collaboration with the in-house exhibits team, we designed wall graphics and updated graphic templates for the focus panels, digital animal IDs, and printed fish ID cards. We also created a video game about tidepooling and updated the aquarium’s wayfinding system. For the environmental graphics, I illustrated abstract rock formations that climb the walls.

Built for Speed

Built for Speed

Built for Speed was designed to give our visitors the sense of being underwater with the fastest fish and boats in and on the sea. Using one typeface, Whitney, we developed an extensive system of typographic hierarchies for the graphic panels and surrounding environmental treatments. I saw this project through production to its completion in the Academy’s central Piazza space.
